Head Coach – Mike Wallace

coach mike wallace Coach Wallace has been the Head Coach for 26 years.  He is the middle distance (400/800)event coach.  Coach Wallace is also the defensive coordinator and quarterback coach of the OE Football team. He attended Emporia State University where he ran track (400/800) and cross country all four years.  His words of wisdom to the athletes are – Never limit yourself, and his favorite quote is, “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t word very hard!” A few of Coach Wallace’s favorite memories are, When Dee Bell told him at the state meet to not to worry he was going to beat Evan Pierson for them to win the state title.  Dee hadn’t beat Evan all year long in the 200. Dee won by about 5 yards and they were state champions! The girls winning the state title in 2011 on the last event – 4×400 relay! And the boys team in 2012 with their best athlete out due to illness and only missing the state title by one point, when they probably shouldn’t have even been in the contending for the state title!

Coach Bozarth’s words of advice for the athletes, “I almost didn’t go out for track in high school because a junior high coach told me I was “…slower than all the girls.” Never set limits on yourself or let others poor expectations define you.  Your dreams are your own, and you can make them reality if you will work hard. I would have lost so much if I had let those words define who I was going to be.  Coach Bo has so many favorite memories over the years he couldn’t pick one! But the fellowship and fun and hard work always stay with you.
