Senior Class – 2019

Weston Groves

This is Weston's 4th year on the OE Track Team. His events include: 4 x 8, 800, 4 x 4 and 400. Besides track, he is involved with Design Academy, Black & Veatch Explorer Post, Center for Architecture & Design, and Custom Storefronts (Intern). Weston plans to attend JCCC for 2 years and will then transfer to Pittsburg State University to pursue Construction Management and possibly walk-on track. After college, he would like to pursue a career in Construction Management and oversee the construction process behind buildings as well as work on sight with construction equipment. Favorite track memory: Running all of the meets with my teammates and the preparation that went into them. Advice to underclassmen: Continue to push yourself. Never give in to the pain and always work to get better throughout the season.

Bryce Kaufmann

As a fourth year OE Track member, Bryce has run the 800, 1600 and 3200. He has also spent some time as a member of the Hawks soccer team. After graduation, Bryce will be continuing his academic and athletic career at Pittsburg State where he will major in marketing and run for the cross country and track team. His favorite memory from track is finding a shopping cart on a practice run and bringing it back to East. His advice to underclassmen: Have fun and give full effort to everything you do.

Maddelyn Pearce

This is Maddelyn's 4th year on the OE Track team. Besides track, she is involved in club volleyball, NHS secretary and community service. After graduation, she will finish her associate's degree at JCCC and then on to UMKC to pursue her master's degree in biology and specialize in Occupational Therapy. Maddelyn hopes to own her own therapy business (PT, OT, Chiropractic, counseling, etc). Favorite memory: The feeling of family, late night track meets and the bus rides. Advice to underclassmen: Make as many memories as you can. Do not waste time making excuses for why you can't when you know you can.

Kye Schmale

Kye is a 4 year member of OE Track and Field. His events are high jump and javelin. Besides track, he has also participated in basketball. After graduation, Kye will attend K-State where he will major in athletic training. After college, he would like to pursue a career as an athletic trainer. Favorite track memory: Jumping at the regional meet Sophomore year. Advice to underclassmen: Work as hard as you can if you want to get better.

Jacob Vermillion

This is Jacob's fourth year as a member of OE Track. He has participated in many events including: 4 x 4, 800, 4 x 800, 1600 and 3200. Besides track, he is also a member of OEXC and NHS.  Jacob will be attending Colorado Christian University in the fall where he will continue his academic and athletic career. Favorite memory from track: Running the 4 x 800 with the squad. Advice to underclassmen: Work hard daily and the work will pay off.

Sarah Wilson

Sarah has been a part of OE Track for two years. Besides track, she is involved in volleyball, NHS, SNHS, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Choir Leadership Program, Choir and Hawk Leaders! After graduation, Sarah plans to attend Rockhurst University where she will major in chemistry. Her plan is to go to medical school and pursue a career as an orthopedic surgeon. Favorite memory: When Laronte lifted up Taran and slammed him on the ground. Advice: Never count yourself out of a race or event because of what others say. The only competition that matters is yourself and if you don't do well, let it go and do better next time.

Connor Young

This is Connor's 4th year as an OE Track member. He has participated in the 800,1600 and 3200. Besides track, Connor is involved in Club Soccer, High School soccer, cross country and NHS. After graduation, he will attend Emporia State where he will continue running and study nursing. Connor's plans for the future are to work in a hospital as a nurse. Favorite track memory: Bringing back “gifts” for Coach Wallace after every pre-meet run. Advice to underclassmen: Cherish the time you have during high school because this will be the time you look back on as the “good ole days”.

Elisa Hernandez

This is Elisa's 4th year as an OE track and field member. Her events include: 800, 1600 and 3200. Besides track, Elisa is involved in other activities such as Cross Country, NHS, FCA and SNHS. After graduation, Elisa will continue her academic and athletic career at Colorado Christian University where she will run cross country and track and work towards a career as a children's pastor and missionary. Favorite memory of track: Pre-meets where we would just talk the whole time and play this game where we'd guess what movie someone was thinking of and then get back and wait to see what the boys brought Wally. Pretty much all of track and our inside jokes and just being a team. Advice: Never limit yourself to what you can do. Always keep striving for the best and working hard and it'll pay off.

Miles Wills

Miles has been a member of OE Track and Field for all 4 years of high school. His events include: 400, 4 x 100 and 4 x 400. He was also a member of the football team. After graduation, he would like to study law or marine biology and hopes to continue running track in college. After college, Miles hopes to become a professional football player or a lawyer. Favorite memory: sophomore year at the freshmen/sophomore meet. Advice for underclassmen: First 7 seconds and do the work!
